Menemen Research, Application and Production Farm

Our Menemen Research, Application and Production Farm, which belongs to our faculty, is located on an area of 3400 decares, which was expropriated in 1963 between Koyundere, Ulukent and Seyrek towns of Menemen. In addition to this area, there is an area of 700 decares, which was allocated to our farm for 49 years by the treasury in 1976, near the town of Seyrek, 15 km away.

However, the total area is 4100 decares. The lands of our farm are alluvial soils carried by the Gediz river and have a sandy loam texture. The land of our farm has the opportunity to irrigate through channels from the Gediz River. There are 6 deep well water pumps on the farm land, 2 of which are used for drinking water purposes and 4 are used for irrigation purposes.

Production is carried out in the fields of Crop Production, Animal Production and Agricultural Products Enterprises in our farm. In the field of Crop Production: wheat, cotton, alfalfa, vetch, maize, second crop silage maize, summer (tomato, pepper eggplant, melon watermelon, cucumber, zucchini, strawberry, golden strawberry, potato) and winter vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, radish, spinach, leek, celery, lettuce, onion, etc.) are produced. As a medicinal plant; thyme, lemon balm, sage, echinacea are produced. As fruit; vineyard (sultani seedless), mandarin, orange, walnut, peach, plum, apricot, pomegranate, olive and stone pine. Our farm carries out the harvest and post-harvest evaluation of the fruits other than the pine pine harvest. Most of our vegetables and fruits are grown as certified organic.

As an animal entity; cattle (Black and White Anatolian Pied cattle), small cattle (Menemen breed sheep) and pullet chickens are available, and studies are carried out to meet the breeding animal demands of the farmers throughout the year. In addition, egg poultry farming is carried out, and eggs obtained from chickens are offered for consumption at the sales points of our Faculty. There is a fully automatic milking unit where 16 cows are milked at the same time. Daily milk is obtained from dairy cows. All of the milk obtained is processed in the Milk Unit. Dairy products obtained from processed milk (pasteurized milk, yoghurt, cheese, cream, curd, butter ayran, strained yogurt, etc.) are offered for consumption in our faculty's sales points and in some private markets. Tarhana, which is produced in our farm's Tarhana facility, is offered to our faculty's sales outlets and foreign sales.
